A rare antique polarizing microscope produced by James Swift & Son approximately in the late 1910s per its serial number (No. 17689). J. Swift & Son was a microscope manufacturer based in England and founded in the mid-19th century. The company would be run by the Swift family for decades until its acquisition in 1946. 

This instrument measures 15.5 inches tall (~40 cm) and weighs 10.5 pounds (4.7 kg). It is in good condition barring some general wear.
