Item Description:
A rare antique polarizing microscope produced by Winkel-Zeiss approximately in the late 1920s-early 1930s per its serial number (No. 28330). Originally an independent microscope manufacturer, Winkel was acquired by Zeiss in 1911 and continued to operate relatively autonomously as Winkel-Zeiss until being fully incorporated in the 1950s.
This piece is a large instrument, measuring 15 inches (38 cm) tall and weighing close to 18 pounds (8 kg). It is in good condition all around, with light rusting on the stage edge, some minor scratches in its black enamel finish, and other general signs of wear. It includes four Winkel-Zeiss objectives as well as various filters and optical components for light polarization.
